MEETINGS OF MEMBERS
Every year CEE HPN members meet for day or two and discuss current development in healthcare system in their countries. This is a great opportunity to share experience and learn from each other. Once a month, members link up via video conferencing.
DIGI4care project
CEE HPN is part of the International project DIGI4Care
The DIGI4Care project (Digital Medical Technologies Reshaping the DR Healthcare Systems Throughout the Patient Journeys from Prevention to Rehabilitation) aims to support innovations and digital solutions in healthcare practice, addressing the shortage of qualified personnel.
Ensuring Successful Integration with a Comprehensive Digital Framework
In addition to ensuring the effective integration of digital technologies in healthcare, DIGI4Care focuses on assessing the feasibility and benefits of digitization in healthcare processes. This includes evaluating technologies, financial models, data management, ethical considerations, and workforce skill development. This comprehensive approach aspires to ensure the efficient integration of digital solutions into clinical practice, equipping healthcare workers with the necessary skills for successful implementation.
12 Organizations, 8 Countries, 4 Pilot Programs from Prevention to Rehabilitation
The DIGI4Care project brings together 12 organizations from 8 countries (Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina) to collaboratively develop, test, and validate the integration of digital technologies into healthcare workflows. The transnational collaboration aims to bridge the digital divide between newer and older EU member states, as well as non-EU countries in the Danube region.
Four pilot programs will be designed, implemented, and evaluated cross-border, focusing on the entire continuum of healthcare from prevention, primary, and outpatient care to long-term care and rehabilitation for diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other cognitive disorders.
CEE HPN and the DIGI4Care Project
CEE HPN will play a significant role in delivering key project outputs through the "Knowledge Platform & Radar" and the development of a training tool. To raise awareness about the project's outcomes, CEE HPN will also be responsible for preparing the "Innovation MD" podcast featuring international guests.
For CEE HPN, transnational collaboration on the DIGI4Care project is a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the digital transformation in healthcare and enhance efficiency in this sector.
Ophthalmology event
Dicsussion on new approaches in the diagnosis, treatment, and financing of ophthalmological health services
The workshop program was divided into two sections, featuring both domestic and international experts. The first section focused on established practices in financing ophthalmological healthcare services in CEE countries. In the second section, we discussed innovative approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
Among the speakers were also co-authors of the report on the topic of financing mechanisms in ophthalmology in the Visegrád Group countries and Ukraine. This report resulted from international collaboration between the Warsaw School of Economics, the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla, the University of Debrecen, and the University of Economics in Prague and was funded by Visegrad Fund.
Before the event itself, CEE HPN members had the opportunity to visit the OB Clinic, which offers comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care focused on the treatment and prevention of obesity and associated metabolic disorders. The OB Clinic is the largest obesity-bariatric facility in the Czech Republic. It offers a range of treatment approaches, from purely conservative methods to internally obesity-focused interventions, combined with pharmacotherapy, and the latest bariatric and metabolic surgical techniques. The clinic specializes primarily in the treatment of severe obesity (morbid obesity) in patients with a BMI over 35 or 40, as well as in the treatment of conditions such as type II diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and nasal joint disorders.

Oncology event
Dicsussion on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases in Slovakia
Oncological diseases remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality in Europe and the world, Slovakia being no exception. Mortality from cancer is very high. Lung and
colorectal cancer are the most frequent causes of cancer death among Slovaks. Moreover, many new cases appear each year and many patients struggle to continue with their normal lives.
Despite these facts, participation in the screening remains low and cancer treatment and its accessibility continue to be far from optimal. New legislation introduced last year (Amendment to Act 363/2011), innovative technologies emerging on the market (e.g. use of AI) as well as expanding national oncological screening program (breast, cervix, colorectal) are key steps that are believed to improve and save lives of many Slovaks.
In June 2023, we organized a discussion on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases in Slovakia. Livestream from workshop is available on our Facebook page

Working Paper Series
The first paper from Working paper series was about capital investment in Slovak hospitals.
In the first paper we focus on neglected technical infrastructure of Slovak hospitals with huge investment debt (about 2.9 billion Eur in comparison to the Czech repulic). Potential sources of capital investment are described. We are looking for answer to the question what are the options for increasing capital investment in hospitals from a system-wide perspective? To answer this, we analyse public, private but also mixed sources including EU funds.
In May 2022, we organized a workshop related to this paper where we presented our conclusions.
Livestream from workshop is available on our Facebook page

Meetings of members
Monthly and yearly members meetings.
• Every year CEE HPN members meet for day or two and discuss current development in healthcare system in their home countries. This is a great opportunity to share news, experiences and learn from each other. Host of the meeting often also organizes a special program for other members (visit of hospital or health care provider). Networking activities are also much appreciated part of the meetings.
• During the COIVD-19 pandemic it was not possible to meet in person so we introduced monthly meetings via video conferencing.
How will the healthcare look like in 2020?
Strategic scenarios by CEE HPN are based on the prognosis of the main driving forces in healthcare. Read the full paper or watch an artistic view on one of the possible futures. Our 4 Scenarios:

AND
Wild cards
Wild cards or Black Swan events are events, which have low probability but extremely high impact. They create existential risks for the stakeholders. Wild cards always appear as big surprises, therefore they can be randomly applied in any stage of the scenarios. As the COVID-19 pandemic showed us, these events could become reality .
